Softball Opens 2026 Season at Sweet Briar

The Lancaster Bible College Softball team kicked off their 2026 season on Friday, March 6 as they traveled to face Sweet Briar in a double-header, falling in both games by scores of 11-0 (5 inn.) and 10-9. The Chargers begin their season at 0-2 overall while the Vixens improve to 5-5 overall.
 
Game 1: 0-11 Loss (5 inn.)
 
How it Happened:
Kendall Jackman (Fr.) was hit by a pitch to lead off the game, but she would be the lone baserunner for the Chargers in game one as they went without a hit in the first game and the Vixens scored three in the 1st, six in the 3rd, then another two in the 4th two complete the five-inning no-hitter in a game one home win.
 
By the Numbers:
- The Chargers had no runs on no hits with two errors while the Vixens had 11 runs on eight hits and no errors
- Kendall Jackman was the lone baserunner for the Chargers, going 0-1 with a HBP
- Maddison Atkins (Sr.) (L, 0-1) pitched 4.0 innings for the Chargers with nine earned runs on eight hits with five walks
- The Vixens were led by Ambyre Taylor, pitching a five-inning no-hitter with 14 strikeouts
 Game 2: 9-10 Loss
 
How it Happened:
The Chargers started strong as Kendall Jackman led off with a single, then after stealing second and advancing to third, Keira Price (So.) singled to drive in the Chargers' first run of the year for the early lead. Sweet Briar then responded with a three-run frame to take the lead, then Maddison Atkins knocked a double in the 2nd inning but could not score. The Vixens added another in the bottom frame, then two more in the third for a 6-1 lead that they carried through the 4th. The Chargers then got the bats going in the 5th inning, starting with a single by Rebekah Hoover (Fr.) and then a RBI-single from Ava Stern (Fr.), scoring Hoover to make the score 6-2. Price then scored after an infield error, then two batters later Amanda Hoover (Sr.) hit an infield single and Carleigh Cleland (Jr.) drove in a run to cut the lead to just one run. Sweet Briar then swung right back with four more runs in the bottom of the 5th to erase the big run, but LBC had an answer in the top of the 6th. Jackman and Rebekah Hoover each got hits, then Stern had another RBI-single, followed by a sacrifice fly by Ila Rowatti (So.), chopping the deficit to three at 10-7. The defense pulled a 1-2-3 inning before rallying again in the 7th as Price knocked a 2-run single make it a one-run game, but the Vixens held on in the end to clinch the double-header sweep over LBC.
 
By the Numbers:
- The Chargers scored nine runs on 15 hits with two errors, while the Vixens had 10 runs on 13 hits and committed four errors
- Keira Price led the Chargers with three hits and a team-high three RBI
- Rebekah Hoover also had three hits and scored a game-high three runs and two stolen bases
- Ava Stern went 2-5 for the game with two RBI
- Kendall Jackman stole a game-high three bases with two hits and two runs scored
- In the circle, Ava Stern (L, 0-1) pitched in her first career game, throwing 6.0 innings with eight earned runs and one walk, earning two strikeouts
- The Vixens were led by Jordan Martin who went 4-4 with one RBI and two runs scored
 
Information to Know:
The Chargers are now 0-3 against Sweet Briar all-time, with this being their first visit to the Vixens as their other matchup was in Myrtle Beach, S.C. at a neutral site. For the Chargers, four players earned their first career hits in a Charger uniform, including Grace Goodman, Rebekah Hoover, Kendall Jackman, and Ava Stern. Stern also got her first career RBI in the 6th inning.

The Chargers head down to Myrtle Beach, S.C. this weekend to take part in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic, playing their first games of the week on Sunday, March 8 as they face Mitchell at 10:00 a.m. and Bridgewater State at 2:00 p.m.
