How it Happened:
The Phoenix struck first with two runs on a pair of hits in the bottom of the 1st inning, then the Chargers got one back as they plated their first run of the game in the 2nd with
Alex Fox (Fr.) delivering a RBI-double to left field. The Chargers then surged ahead with a rally in the 3rd inning, starting with a leadoff single by
Shane Stephan (Jr.) who came around to score on a double by
Dylan Witkowski (Sr.). Then, a fielding error and a pair of wild pitches plated three more LBC runs as the Chargers took the 5-2 advantage after three innings. The Chargers added another in the 4th inning as
Tanner Smith (Sr.) laid down a sacrifice bunt for a RBI, then Wilson matched that on a solo home run in the bottom frame to stay within three runs. The teams then combined for just one hit over the next two innings before an offensive explosion by the Chargers in the top of the 7th, getting their first three batters on base before Fox got another RBI on a sacrifice fly. Two batters later, Stephan cleared the bases on a 3-RBI triple, boosting the lead to 10-3 before scoring on an error to make the lead eight. Two runs then came home on a single by
Evan Sareyka (Sr.), then Sareyka scored on wild pitch to make it 14-3 Chargers. A 1-2-3 inning in the bottom frame would seal the deal in seven innings for the Chargers as they took down Wilson on the road and improved to 4-1 in conference play.
