The Lancaster Bible softball team hosted conference opponent Cairn on Wednesday, April 15
th. The Chargers would sweep the Highlanders, as they go on to clinch a United East post season spot. The Chargers will improve to 17-8 on the year including 10-0 in conference, continuing the Chargers' best conference start in program history.
Game One:
6-0 WIN
How it Happened:
The game started with a slower pace the first two innings. Each team would get some base runners, but no one found their way around to home plate, until the bottom of the third. A
Kendall Jackman single, followed by a
Rebekah Hoover single and wild pitch opened the scoring. Hoover eventually scored off a double by
KariAnn Mecke, followed by a
Keira Price single that scored Mecke giving the Chargers a 3-0 lead. The lead continued to grow in the bottom of the fifth, following a scoreless fourth.
Keira Price hit a two-run homer, followed by a
Grace Goodman RBI single. The lead would hold as the Chargers would win 6-0.
By the Numbers:
- The Charges scored six runs on twelve hits with zero errors
- The Highlanders scored zero runs on two hits with one error
- Maddison Atkins improves to 10-4 with a two strikeout zero run game
- Keira Price led the Chargers in hitting going 2-3 with 1 HR and 3 RBIs
- KariAnn Mecke went 3-3 with one RBI
- Grace Goodman and Ila Rowatti each added two hits of their own
Game Two:
16-2 WIN (5 inn.)
The Chargers wasted no time getting on the board as an error by the Highlanders allowed
Kendall Jackman to score, giving them the 1-0 lead. The Highlanders responded with their two lone runs of the day in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead. Lancaster Bible didn't stay down for too long, as a
Rebekah Hoover single scored one; followed by an
Ava Stern single which scored two. The Chargers took the lead back 4-2. The runs continued into the bottom of the third inning as
KariAnn Mecke would score off a groundout to second base. Illa Rowatti came around to score off a
Carleigh Cleland single, eventually scoring off a bases loaded walk, as the Chargers' lead grew to 7-2. The final half inning for the Chargers' sealed the game as they went on to score nine runs off seven hits giving them the 16-2 victory.
By the Numbers:
- The Chargers scored sixteen runs off fifteen hits with zero errors
- The Highlanders scored two runs off six hits with five errors
- Ava Stern improved to 7-4 with a three strikeout zero walk game while going 2-3 with 3 RBIs from the plate
- Carleigh Cleland led the Chargers in hitting going 2-3 with 4 RBIs
- Kendall Jackman and Ila Rowatti both added 3 hits off 3 ABs
