The Lancaster Bible College Softball team suffered their first two United East Conference losses on Friday at Penn St. Brandywine, 8-0 and 13-3. The Chargers drop to 17-10 overall and 10-2 in conference while the Lions improve to 23-7 overall and 12-0 in conference.
Game One
Penn State Brandywine struck first in the opening inning and quickly built momentum with a four-run second inning, highlighted by a bases-clearing triple from Emma McElroy. The Lions added three more runs in the third to extend their lead to 8-0, putting the Chargers in an early hole they could not recover from.
Lancaster Bible struggled to generate offense, recording just one hit in the contest, coming from
KariAnn Mecke. The Chargers were unable to find an answer for Brandywine's pitcher April Lewandowski, who tossed a complete game shutout with six strikeouts.
Maddison Atkins took the loss in the circle as the Lions secured the run-rule victory.
Game Two
Penn State Brandywine wasted no time taking control, scoring five runs in the first inning behind a pair of home runs and aggressive base running. The Lions continued to apply pressure with three more runs in the second and added insurance throughout the game to build a commanding lead.
Lancaster Bible showed some fight in the second inning when
Carleigh Cleland delivered a two-RBI single to cut into the deficit.
Ava Stern later added a triple and came around to score on a sacrifice fly from
Maddison Atkins, but the Chargers could not keep pace with Brandywine's offensive output.
Despite collecting five hits, Lancaster Bible struggled to contain the Lions' lineup, which produced 13 runs on 13 hits.
Ava Stern took the loss in the circle, while Olivia Bowers earned the win for Penn State Brandywine.
