The Lancaster Bible College Baseball team played their final United East games of the season on Friday as they traveled to play Penn St. Berks, splitting the double-header after losing 5-3 in game one and winning 13-10 in game two. The Chargers move to 16-16 overall and 11-5 in conference while the Lions move to 9-23-2 overall and 6-8 in conference.

*During the first game today, LBC senior Dylan Witkowski got his 211th career hit, setting a new Lancaster Bible Baseball program record for career base hits as he passed Justin Taylor ('14-'17) in the recorded Division III era of the program (since 2013).

How it Happened:
Penn St. Berks built themselves a 3-0 lead over the first two innings with five total hits, then the Chargers scored in the top of the 3rd as
Dylan Witkowski (Sr.) hit a RBI-double to score
Shane Stephan (Jr.). The Lions got the run right back in the bottom frame to get the lead back to three, then after a scoreless 4th, LBC came through with two more runs as
Donavan Boles (So.) hit a two-run single to left field, scoring Witkowski and
CJ Peterson (So.) to cut the lead to one run. Both defenses then held tight for the next six frames until the bottom of the 8th when the Lions got another to score, then with two runners on in the top of the 9th, the Chargers could not score as Berks took game one 5-3.

How it Happened:
The Chargers scored right away with two in the 1st inning as
Shane Stephan hit a sacrifice fly and
Donavan Boles hit a RBI-single, giving LBC a 2-0 lead. The Lions, however, scored five runs in the 1st in response, taking the lead 5-2 after just one frame each. Berks added one in the 2nd before the Chargers put together a big inning in the 3rd, starting with a RBI-double by
Tanner Smith (Sr.) to make it 6-3 Berks.
Malachi Sloane (Jr.) then drove in two on a single, then
Logan Grimm (Fr.) tied the game up at 6-6 on a single down the left field line.
Evan Sareyka then hit a sac fly to score Daniel Peña (Fr.), giving LBC the lead 7-6. The next inning, Smith added to the lead with another RBI hit on a single, then Penn St. Berks matched it in the bottom frame to keep it a one-run game. In the 5th, Sareyka had another single to score a run, then Stephan hit another sac fly as LBC extended their lead to three. The Lions answered that with a rally in the same inning, scoring three to tie the game at 10-10. After a scoreless 6th, the Chargers powered back ahead in the 7th as Boles hit a two-run home run to center field, making it 12-10 Chargers. LBC added another on a RBI-single by Stephan in the 9th, then Sareyka shut the door on the Lions to earn the save and help LBC earn the 13-10 victory.

The Chargers are now 16-25-1 all-time against Penn St. Berks and have split their last seven meetings 3-3-1 with the Lions. The Chargers finish their United East conference slate at 11-5 and finish fourth in the United East in the standings, securing a home Second Round series this coming Friday and Saturday, May 1-2 with their opponent to be determined with conference games still to be played this weekend.
