The Lancaster Bible College Men's Soccer team hosted Gwynedd Mercy on Monday afternoon as they secured their first victory of the season, winning 4-2. The Chargers improve to 1-4 overall while the Griffins drop to 1-4 overall.
How it Happened:
The Chargers forced pressure on the Gwynedd Mercy early with three shots in the first 10 minutes, including a shot on goal by
Jeremy Lee (Fr.) that was saved. The Chargers then forced a corner kick around the 17-minute mark, with
Gabe Bormolini (Fr.) launching a cross to the far side for Lee, tapping it into the goal for LBC's first lead of the season as Bormolini tallied the assist. Lancaster Bible kept the pressure up with three more corners as the half progressed, then on a break across the field,
Ryan Mosdell (Jr.) received a nifty pass from
Taylor Gehman (So.) and struck for a score to add to the Chargers' lead at 2-0. Just two minutes later, the Chargers connected again as Lee found
Jacob Melleby (Fr.) on the right side, putting a strong shot on the ground to the left side of the goal for his first career score to help the Chargers take a 3-0 home lead into the halftime break.
The Chargers had a shot on goal right away in the second half as Lee took one, but the Griffins responded as they flipped the field quickly and struck for a score to cut the lead to two. Lancaster Bible had three shots on goal in the next two minutes as they looked for another answer, earning two corner kicks as well. The Chargers found another score in the 66th minute as
Ruben Reyes (So.) found a streaking Bormolini up the middle, punching it in for his first score to get the lead back to three at 4-1. Gwynedd Mercy scored again about six minutes later to make a late rally as they had two corners and most of the possession down the stretch, but the Chargers held on as they closed out their first win of the season at home over the Griffins.
