Chargers Earn Shutout over EMU for First Win of 2026

The Lancaster Bible College Field Hockey team captured their first victory of the season at home on Saturday morning as they took down Eastern Mennonite by a score of 2-0. The Chargers improve to 1-1 overall while the Royals drop to 0-2 overall.

How it Happened:
The Chargers attacked the goal early as Gracie Hoffman (So.) had several shots in the first 10 minutes, then LBC drew a corner where Rebekah Hoover (So.) had a shot on goal that was saved. The Chargers drew two more corners in the final minutes of the first quarter with the final one seeing two shots on goal, the second one going in for the Chargers' first score of the season as Abby Olver (Fr.) notched her first career goal off an assist from Riley Danko (Sr.).

The Chargers continued to draw corners in the second quarter as Hoffman and Ayla Zwally (So.) had shots on goal, then Lauren Stup (Fr.) had a save in goal to fend off an attack from the Royals. The Chargers headed into halftime with a one-goal lead at home to protect.

Lancaster Bible drew three corners in the first five minutes of the third quarter as Zwally and Hoffman each had shots, then a shot by Danko drew a penalty stroke for LBC, but the Royals' goalkeeper made the save to prevent another score. Each team drew another corner with shots on goal, but the Chargers still held a 1-0 lead heading into the final period.

The Chargers advanced up the field quickly to start the fourth as Bailey Simmons (So.) drove to the goal and notched a score, adding to the LBC lead with 14 minutes to play. Eastern Mennonite responded by attacking the goal before a defensive save by Alyssa Pantoja (So.) prevented a goal, but the Royals earned a penalty stroke for a strong chance before Amelia Huey (Gr.) came up big for the Chargers with the save to keep EMU off the board. The Chargers had four more corners and three more shots to keep the intensity up as they closed out their first victory of the season at home in a shutout.
