Caleb Abney was named the 19th head coach in Lancaster Bible College Baseball history in November of 2021. He arrived from Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Ga. where he had served as the assistant coach since September of 2019.
Abney was also a standout player for Covenant from 2007 to 2011, as he was an academic all-conference player all four seasons. Following graduation, Abney earned his master’s degree from the University of Georgia, and began working in baseball throughout the South.
Abney worked for the Tampa Bay Rays Low-A affiliate in Bowling Green in 2015, as he served as the Minor League Video Intern, and helped with pre-game activities, including batting practice, fungoes, and catching flat-ground bullpens. Abney also served as an assistant coach at King University in Tennessee during the 2017-18 academic year, and then was the Gulf Coast League hitting coach for the Minnesota Twins affiliate in Fort Myers, Fla. in 2019.
Prior to his assistant job at Covenant, Abney was the Staunton Braves Head Coach of the Valley Baseball League for the 2021 season. In addition to managing the team, Abney was also the Director of Operations for the high-level collegiate summer team.
