Weston, MA—Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team got their first win of the 2008 season when they beat Regis College 2-0 Sunday afternoon. It was a great bounce back victory for the Chargers after a rough opener on Saturday.
The Chargers first goal was scored by Meredith Wrightson (Silver Spring, MD) with 2:15 remaining in the first half. Their second would be scored by freshman Kristina Clairmont (Dublin, PA) in the 58th minute to allow the Chargers a cushion that would never be relinquished.
The Chargers had the ball on a string, as they maintained possession of the ball for most of the game. Although the Pride's defense withheld Lancaster Bible from scoring for most of the first half, a goal from Wrightson off an assist from Clairmont gave the Chargers the advantage going into halftime. Kirsten Shoemaker (Cochranville, PA) had a solid performance in the goal by posting her first shutout of the season.
A happy Coach Heather Gale summed it up this way: "Our goal for the game was to do a better job of connecting passes and transitioning as a team both offensively and defensively. I was very pleased with the team effort given by everyone. We played solid defense, especially by Freshman Midfielder Jenna Godwin (Fairfax, VA) who had the responsibility of marking one of their best playmakers #14 Meghan Roan. We also did a better job on the offensive end by finishing shots under pressure."
Chargers come right back home on Tuesday, September 2nd against New Jersey City at 4:00.
