Chargers Snap Skid, Beat PSU-Berks, 2-1

With sophomore midfielder Taylor Dooley out for the season with a knee injury, the Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team is going to have to rely on other key members of the team to get where they want to go. Losing their past two games wasn't helping matters either.

Enter Cory Greiser, Kyle Zook, Lawrence Lartey and Zak Kraehmer. The big four led the Chargers past Penn State - Berks on Monday 2-1. It wasn't the prettiest of victories, but with only three games remaining in the regular season, a win is a win.

"We outplayed them, but we didn't play our best soccer," Charger Head Coach Josh Beers said. "We struggled to find any rhythm at all."

Greiser scored 21 minutes into the contest on a pass from Lartey to open the scoring. Zook, off a pass from Kraehmer, scored two minutes later to increase the Charger lead to two.

PSU-Berks' Mike Zopfi scored seven minutes into the second half to cut the lead to one, but Charger goalkeeper Jake Kreider made sure the lead stuck as he made a few key saves in the second half to preserve the victory.

Beers said the team is thankful for the win, but they need to play better.

"It's going to take more than that type of performance for us to go where we want to go," Beers said. "We need to challenge ourselves more and after tonight, we need some work in that area."

Beers also admitted that the team misses Dooley's presence in the middle of the field.

"We miss Dooley and it was evident tonight as we did a lot of looking at one another in the middle," Beers said. "We have to fix that or our season is going to be over a lot sooner than we want it to be."

The Chargers (10-6) return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Christendom at 5:00 p.m.
