Alvernia Handles LBC

Playing their third game in five days with a short bench, the Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team knew they were going to have to play their finest game to compete with Alvernia on Saturday afternoon in Reading.

Despite losing 3-0, the Charger coaching staff was pleased with how the players handled playing down and playing hurt. Charger Head Coach Ken Craul is happy with the way the play on the field is progressing as well.

"We showed improvement in our possession of the ball, as well as players moving after they distribute the ball," Craul said.

LBC (2-10-1) got 14 saves from senior goalkeeper Kirsten Shoemaker in the loss. Craul was also pleased with Jenna Godwin's play.

"Jenna played a good game in our defensive end of the field and contributed in the play in the center of the field as well," Craul said.

Alvernia scored 23 minutes into the match to take a 1-0 lead. They held that lead through halftime before Kristin Mantle and Amy Mesce scored five minutes apart early in the second half to extend the lead to 3-0.

Alvernia (3-10) out shot the Chargers 23-2.

LBC is back in action on Monday when they host Ramapo at 4:00 p.m.
