As the regular season wraps up, the Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team isn't coasting into the playoffs. Playing without their big guns for the second straight game, the Chargers can't relax, and have taken to winning a different way.
Grinding and playing tough soccer, the Chargers shutout Patrick Henry 3-0 on Monday in Purcellville, Va. Freshman
Jesse Fraser and sophomores
Travis Weyandt and
Marcus Benner scored for the Chargers (12-6).
Fraser's goal at the 16-minute mark came off a feed from
Zak Kraehmer. It was Fraser's second goal of the year, and Kraehmer's ninth assist. Nine minutes later, Weyandt capped off a great passing play by beating Sentinel goalkeeper Evan Mantel.
Junior
Ben Earhart and sophomore
Lawrence Lartey earned assists on Weyandt's goal.
"We are grinding and taking care of our business," Charger Head Coach Josh Beers said. "We need some guys to get healthy, but we are playing well as a team."
Benner's third goal of the season in the 88th minute sealed the victory for the Chargers.
Jordan Westphal added the assist, his first of the season.
LBC out shot Patrick Henry 30-11 and held a 11-0 edge in corner kicks.
For the fourth time this season, the Chargers will play on back-to-back days. Tuesday will mark the end of the regular season for LBC, with a trip to Davis College on tap.
"We are looking forward to the challenge of heading up there to face them," Beers said. "We have to be ready to play."
The Chargers should get a lift as
Kyle Zook and
Kevin Keltner return to the line-up after missing yesterday's game because of injury and illness respectively.
The game will begin at 3:30 p.m.
