Blazers Blitz Chargers

With the regular season winding down, the Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team was looking for a spark to help close the season on a good note. Tuesday's game against Hood didn't provide one.

The Blazers jumped out early and cruised to a 7-0 victory over the Chargers on Senior Day. Honoring their three seniors, Kirsten Shoemaker, Alicia Poorman and Meredith Wrightson before the match, LBC surrendered four first half goals.

The Blazers (8-6-1) kept the pressure on in the second half, which resulted in three more goals, two of the them coming courtesy of penalty kicks. While the final score of Tuesday's game didn't turn out well, Wrightson and the other seniors still take fond memories of home soccer matches with them.

"Playing soccer has been a positive experience for me," Wrightson said. "I am proud to have played four years and represented Lancaster Bible College."

Wrightson also pointed out that while the team's record is not great this season, her and the other seniors have learned valuable leadership qualities.

"We have learned to keep everyone's spirits high and focus on what we have to do," Wrightson said.

Hood out shot the Chargers 26-3 and held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Shoemaker, making her final home start in goal, collected 12 saves.

The Chargers (2-12-2) wrap up the regular season on Thursday when they face Penn State-Berks in Reading at 3:30 p.m.
