Finally. It took 10 matches, but the Lancaster Bible College women's tennis team got its first win on Saturday afternoon, defeating Catholic University 5-4. Sophomore
Michelle Ringler had two wins on the day, the first a doubles win with partner Freshman
Bri Funk and the second at number three singles, defeating Katie Johnson 6-1, 6-4.
Funk, was also a double winner, the aforementioned doubles win with Ringler and her first collegiate singles win against Ally Tantz 6-2, 6-4.
"I was happy with the way everyone played today, but especially Ringler and Funk," Charger Head Coach
Zach Freeman said. "Ringler is one of our captains and she played like it the last two days. She led the team very well these last two days."
Because of injuries and a mix-up in scheduling, Catholic had to forfeit the number six singles match as well as the number three doubles match, giving LBC (1-9) two victories.
The Chargers' number one player, junior Roxy Ghaziaskar, played well again, falling in three sets to Catholic's number one player Isti Kuhn 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.
"Roxy battled today and even though she came up short, I thought she played well," Freeman said. "I think she needs to stay calm during matches and just focus on playing good tennis. She is a good player and needs to believe that herself."
The Chargers are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Westminster, Md. to take on McDaniel.
