Chargers Use Huge Second Half to Beat BBC

The Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team did something for the first time in team history Thursday night in Clarks Summit. They beat Baptist Bible College for the second consecutive year. Using a 56-point second half that featured 75 percent shooting from the field and a 28-3 run during the last nine minutes of the game, the Chargers downed the Defenders 94-71.

Four LBC starters scored in double figures, led by Madison Warfel who had 24 points. Warfel was 6-for-9 from beyond the arc and added four rebounds and two steals. The Keltner brothers, Keith, Kevin and Kyle, combined for 40 points. Keith had his highest point total of season with 18.

"We got a lot of good looks and took a lot of good shots," Charger Head Coach Pete Beers said. "We have three guards in Madison, Keith and Kevin, who are really good and they played really well tonight."

Beers and the coaching staff were also pleased with the defensive pressure the Chargers were able to apply in the second half.

"Our pressure enabled us to get baskets in transition and that was key," Beers said. "Madison played great defense tonight and Kevin's defense on their point guard was good for much of the game."

Senior Carl Edwards also played a large part in the victory, shooting 5-for-6 from the field and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.

"Carl was a force tonight," Beers said. "The last eight minutes of the game, he played very well."

Playing three games in five days, the Chargers (3-4) are now 2-0 this week. A dual with Philadelphia Biblical University remains on Saturday. Beers said LBC is playing well because of their early season schedule.

"Tonight's game is the reason we play a tough schedule the first couple of weeks," Beers said. "We are ready for these types of games because of playing good opponents early on.

Saturday's game at Horst Athletic Center will begin at 4:00 p.m.
