Playing in their final game before Finals and Christmas Break, the Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team faced a tough task playing rival Baptist Bible in Clarks Summit.
The Defenders consistent play on the offensive and defensive ends proved to be too much as the Chargers fell 75-60. BBC's Joy DeLeonardis had 21 points and eight rebounds to pace the Defenders.
Vanessa Clemenson led LBC with 15 points and seven rebounds, while
Lauren Heliger had 13 points, shooting 3-for-4 from beyond the arc.
"BBC executed well and was more consistent than we were tonight," Charger Head Coach Bob Shannon said.
LBC (2-7) trailed 37-24 at halftime and cut the lead to nine with 9:48 to go, but could not get closer.
"We simply could not get over the nine to ten point hump that we spotted them in the first half," Shannon said. "We executed much better in the second half and played a tough opponent even, but it wasn't enough."
Despite the loss, the coaching staff was pleased with how the team played and how they kept the game close. Last season's tilt was won 61-34 by BBC.
"In previous seasons they emptied their bench and cruised to the victory," Shannon said. "Tonight they didn't have a chance to do that, so there are certainly positives to take from this."
Heading into the break, Shannon said he still would like his team to be more consistent.
"We have to shoot for a higher percentage on offense and continue to improve our defensive intensity," Shannon said. "We have made progress, but we still need to get better."
The Chargers are back in action on January 7 when they face Ohio Christian in Circleville, Ohio at 7:30 p.m.
