MEDIA, PA – The Lancaster Bible College baseball team swept Williamson Free Trade School of Mechanics in a double-header, Friday afternoon 6-3 and 3-0. In the first game, junior Ben Markey (Dallastown, PA) pitched a complete game to record his first victory of the young season. Lou Curcio (Hatfield, PA) picked up his second win of the year in the second game.
In game number one, Markey got roughed up for three runs in the bottom of the first but then settling down to pitch six shut-out innings the rest of the way. Junior Jake Clemeson (The Dalles, OR) and Freshman Marcus Benner (Waldoboro, ME) both knocked in two RBI's each.
Lancaster took the lead in the top of the first inning 2-0 on a hit by Sophomore Tyrel Fuller (Wellsboro, PA) and a Williamson error. But the Mechanics bounced back with three in the bottom of the inning off Markey. Neither team would score again until the top of the fifth when four Chargers would eventually cross the plate. The last runners scored on Marcus Benner's two-out two-run double.
In the second game, Junior Lou Curcio continued his scoreless inning streak pitching a complete game shutout. Curcio has not allowed an earned run in his last 14 innings of work. During this stretch, he has recorded 19 strikeouts giving him a total of 23 K's in 20 innings of work this season. The Charger offense was led by Fuller who went 2-2 with a pair of walks and an RBI.
The nightcap saw LBC take the lead again in the top of the first inning 1-0. The first inning's single score would be all the Chargers would need, as the Mechanics' bats were silent most of the day. Scores in the third and again in the sixth gave the Chargers some insurance as they went on to their third straight victory of the week.
Chargers take the field again tomorrow, this time at Lebanon Valley College, first pitch is scheduled for 12:30.
