Lions Overcome Chargers

Lancaster, PA- The men's baseball team jumped out to an early three run lead but couldn't hold on losing 8-3 and 13-11 to Penn State Harrisburg. The Chargers were led by junior captain Lou Curcio (Hatfield, PA) going three for five on the day with four RBI's.

Up until the sixth inning the first game was a defensive battle to say the least. The Chargers held a three run lead on a pair of hits and Curcio had a two hitter going into the sixth. That's when the momentum shifted to the Lions, scoring six runs in the top of the inning to take the lead 6-3.

Charger bats remained silent while the Lions tacked on two more runs in the seventh for the final 8-3. Chris Finch recorded the win for the Lions while Curcio got a no decision for the Chargers. Curcio also had the Chargers lone RBI. Matt Umberger led Penn State going three for four and three RBI's.

The second game saw a totally different team take the field. By the end of the first inning Lancaster had twice as many hits as they did in the first game and led 5-2. Unfortunately the Chargers gave up another big inning to the Lions, this time giving up six runs in the fourth to fall behind 9-5.

The Chargers brought it back to within striking distance in the top of the fifth when Curcio hit a two run shot to make it 9-7. The Lions stretched their lead back to five in the top of the seventh 13- 8. Lancaster refused to go out without a fight, but the Charger rally stalled after three runs crossed the plate in bottom of the seventh for a 13-11 final.

Ben Markey (Dallastown, PA) got the loss for the Chargers going five innings giving up eight hits and eight earned runs. On offense, Drew Tilley (Annville, PA) and Lou Curcio led the team going 3-4 with three RBI's and a home run each.

The Chargers are at home again on Saturday this time for a double header against Southern Virginia, first game has a 12:00 PM scheduled start.
