Chargers Split Regional Double-header

Lancaster, PA- Lancaster split Thursday's double-header with regional opponent Valley Forge Christian College. The Chargers are now tied for first place in the East Region with the Patriots.

The first game was a pitching duel through the first four and a half innings, with opposing pitchers allowing only five combined hits. That lasted until the bottom of the fifth when the Chargers strung together three hits and a pair of stolen bases to score four runs.

Lancaster lost their lead just as quickly as they got it, giving up four runs to the Patriots in the sixth and two more in the seventh for a 6-4 final. Lou Curcio (Hatfield, PA) got the loss for the Chargers giving up six hits, four earned runs, and nine strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work.

Valley Forge drew first blood in the second game when leadoff hitter Jon Kozack scored in the first inning to put the visitors up 1-0, but after that it was all Chargers. Ben Markey (Dallastown, PA) held Patriot batters in check allowing only six hits and three earned runs. Markey went all seven innings recording six strikeouts.

The Chargers took the lead when outfielders Eric Hollinger (Leola, PA) and Marcus Benner scored a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the second. Jacob Comer tied the game at two for the Patriots with a solo homerun in the sixth inning. Lancaster answered quickly with four runners crossing the plate in the bottom of the inning. The Chargers allowed a single run in the seventh to hold onto the 6-3 victory.
