Women's Soccer Picks Up First Win

Shoemaker Blanks Mount Aloysius
The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team recorded its first win of the season on Saturday on the campus of LBC, defeating Mount Aloysius 2-0. It marks the first career win for Head Coach Ken Craul.

The Chargers (1-2) got a first half goal from freshman Whitney Heise who caught Mountie goalkeeper Jess Petrella out of position and chipped it over her head. LBC led 1-0 deep into the second half before sophomore Kristina Clairmont scored on a tip pass from senior Alicia Poorman.

"We played hard today," Craul said. "We won a lot more 50-50 balls today than we did earlier in the week against Lycoming."

Heise's goal came as a result of the Chargers stretching the field and looking for the open player in the middle.

"We have worked on stretching the field in practice this week and making sure that there are wide spaces to get the ball into," Craul said.

Goalkeeper Kirsten Shoemaker recorded her first shutout of the season, recording one save on the only shot she faced.

Craul was also impressed with his team as they continued to battle for the full 90 minutes.

"Clairmont's goal was a direct result of not letting up and going after the ball," Craul said.

On a personal note, Craul was happy to get his first win under his belt.

"I was starting to worry about my job a little bit," Craul said jokingly.

LBC returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to New Jersey City at 4:00 p.m.
