Playing their third road match in five days, the Lancaster Bible College women's tennis team has seen enough of the Pennsylvania Highway System. Riding the van into New Jersey on Saturday, the Chargers fell to William Paterson University 7-2.
LBC (0-6) got wins from the doubles team of freshman
Bri Funk and junior
Carolyn Kensinger, as well as a singles win from junior
Kelsey Scott.
"We battled today and considering the week we have had, I am happy with how the ladies played today," Charger Head Coach
Zach Freeman said.
After dropping the first set 6-4, Scott took over the match and defeated Pioneer Sonja Pedersen 6-1 in the second set and won the 10-point super tie-breaker 10-6.
"Kelsey played very well today," Freeman said. "She was down a set, we had already lost the overall match, but still there was no quit in her. She's one of our captains, and today she showed everyone why."
Funk and Kensinger got their first doubles' win of the season, beating Lisa Varacallo and Pedersen 8-7 (7-5).
"They have been improving everytime they've played together," Freeman said. "I'm happy that they could put all of the pieces together and get a win today."
The Chargers will play at full strength on Wednesday when they host Messiah at 4:00 p.m. at Linden Hall School in Lititz.
"We haven't played at full strength in a while, so that will be nice," Freeman said. "Plus we get to play our first match at Linden Hall which is exciting because it's a great facility. We are happy to call it home for the rest of the season."
