Chargers Battle Wind, Lose to Goucher

Windy conditions and tennis don't mix. The Lancaster Bible and Goucher College women's tennis teams found that out very quickly on Tuesday. The Gophers (5-0) overcame the gusty conditions and dispatched the Chargers 9-0 at Linden Hall School for Girls in Lititz, Pa.

The doubles team of junior Carolyn Kensinger and freshman Bri Funk led 5-4 during their number two doubles match before falling to Carly Heinz and Addie Maxwell 8-5.

"They were in the match and let it slip away a little bit today," Charger Head Coach Zach Freeman said. "Carolyn is banged up a little bit, but I was hoping they could find a way to pull that one out."

Charger junior Michelle Ringler traded great shots with Goucher's Meaghan Lee, before Lee pulled away for the 6-2, 6-2 victory.

"Michelle looked really good today," Freeman said. "I thought she hit some shots that she hasn't hit since the beginning of the season, that was really nice to see."

LBC junior Roxy Ghaziaskar played well against Goucher's number one player Carly Heinz who is undefeated this season. Both players refused to let the wind bother them and though Heinz won 6-0, 6-0, Ghaziaskar played tough the whole match.

"I thought Roxy played well again today," Freeman said. "She is learning every match and she continues to grow as a person and a player each time she takes the court."

The Chargers (0-8) are back in action on Friday when they host Penn State-Berks at 4:00 p.m. The match will once again be played at Linden Hall School for Girls in Lititz.
