Chargers Start Slow, Finish Strong Against PSU-Mont Alto

Trying to snap a four-game losing streak, the Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team was hoping to play a strong all-around game at Penn State-Mont Alto on Thursday night. The first half wasn't exactly what the coaching staff and team had in mind.

Leading just 27-24 at half, Head Coach Pete Beers and his staff challenged the players to get tougher, control what they could control, and take care of business the way they know how.

In the second half, the Chargers did just that. Behind freshman Keith Keltner's 16 points and hard work on the boards, LBC put an end to their losing streak, defeating the Nittany Lions 83-70.

"I think lethargic is the best way to describe how we started the game," Beers said. "After halftime though, we matched their hot start and over-matched them offensively towards the end and were able to win by a comfortable margin."

Kevin Keltner had a game-high 20 points, shooting 7-of-13 from the field, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. He also added five assists and four steals.

"Kevin had three turnovers in the first couple of minutes, but after that played very well," Beers said. "He took good shots and did a great job of feeding the post."

Senior Carl Edwards had nine points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Chargers (6-9). Eric Nulf chipped in with nine points and nine rebounds.

"Carl and Eric did a good job on the boards tonight for us," Beers said.

LBC pulled down 37 rebounds on the night, 16 of them on the offensive side of the floor. Edwards and Nulf combined for 10 of the 16 offensive rebounds.

"Getting 16 offensive rebounds is big for us and our success," Beers said.

After going 0-for-2 in the first half, Keith Keltner caught fire in the second half, knocking down five shots from the field and going a perfect 6-for-6 six from the charity stripe.

"Keith getting into the paint and making shots is a big thing for him," Beers said. "He looked better offensively and that is a step in the right direction for him."

Having snapped their losing streak, the Chargers will begin preparing for Tuesday night's match-up with rival Valley Forge Christian.

"It's a big one for us," Beers said. "It's one we need."
