Heise's Hat Trick Leads Chargers Past PSU Berks, 5-1

Due to Lancaster Bible College's fall break, the women's soccer team had not played since last Wednesday. Judging by Monday's five-goal outburst, it appears the rest did the team good.

Whitney Heise scored three goals in a span of 12 minutes midway through the second half to lead the Chargers to a 5-1 win over visiting Penn State Berks. With the scored tied 1-1 at halftime, Heise began her three-goal barrage with a goal at the 66:02 mark off a pass from Ally Brown. Seven minutes later, it was Heise from Brown again and LBC was rolling.

"The team responded well after the half and put together one of the best halves of soccer that we have played this season," LBC Head Coach Ken Craul said. "It was great to see us play so well and so hard after a four-day layoff."

Heise completed the hat trick just five minutes after her second goal, this time off of a feed from Kristina Clairmont.

"It was good to see us have quality opportunities in our offensive end and finish them by scoring," Craul said.

Brown finished the scoring with just over a minute to play with her sixth goal of the season. Hannah Reichard had the lone goal for LBC in the first half.

Despite the offensive outburst, Craul was just as pleased with the Chargers' defensive effort.

"Becka Hixson had a great defensive effort playing against a player [Taylor Kreider] who had 16 goals coming into the game," Craul said. "Our defensive effort was a team effort that everyone contributed to."

One good thing to come from the fall break layoff was the team getting two starters back from injury. Karyn Harkness and Rebekah Weidel played for the first time in over a week on Monday.

"It was nice to have Karyn and Weidel back from injury," Craul said. "We are going to need them during our stretch run."

The team's stretch run continues on Wednesday with a game against Trinity [Wash. D.C.] College. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

Notes:
-Brown now has 12 assists, good enough for 3rd in NCAA Division III.

-Heise and Clairmont now share the team lead in goals with nine.

-Heise leads the team with 25 points.

-Chargers' goalkeeper Emily Lloyd made 10 saves for her 10th win of the season.
