Chargers Win Third Straight, Beat Defenders, 5-4

Monday night's are nail-biting nights for the Lancaster Bible College women's tennis team.

After last Monday's, 5-4 win at William Paterson, the Chargers came-from-behind and beat Baptist Bible College, 5-4 in their home finale. As was the case last Monday, LBC co-captain Kelsey Scott won the final singles match to clinch the win for the Chargers. Scott won, 6-0, 7-6(7-3), over Sarah Salzmann to cap the comeback.

"Our doubles play was pretty awful today, but the ladies responded and played great singles matches," Chargers' Head Coach Zach Freeman said. "Even the two singles matches we lost, our ladies played well and showed heart."

Becky Griffes and Rachel Schmuck got the lone doubles' match point for LBC with their 8-6 win at flight three doubles.

"Becky and Rachel had played once before and it didn't go very well, but today they were active and had great communication," Freeman said.

Kayla Scott, Nicole Karschner and Michelle Ringler won their singles' matches, before Kelsey Scott clinched the LBC victory.

"Kayla's dealing with a bit of a knee injury, but was simply great today," Freeman said. "Karschner and Ringler were reliable once again for us."

The win means the Chargers (7-5),who have two matches remaining, can finish no worse than .500 for the season.

"The program had two wins in the first two years it existed," Freeman said. "For us to be over .500 and have seven wins with two matches remaining is a true testament to the ladies' hard work and dedication to success and becoming better tennis players."

LBC will wrap up their season in New Jersey with a match against Kean University on Friday and a match opposite Ramapo College on Saturday.
