With the playoffs just around the corner, the Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team traveled to Hood College on Tuesday, searching for momentum to use down the home stretch. Blazers' goalkeeper William Lane made sure the Chargers took no such momentum home with them.
Lane made six saves and Hood's Chris Mendez scored the game's only goal in the 68th minute to help the Blazers beat the Chargers, 1-0.
The Chargers (9-8) pressured the Blazers' defense hard after the goal, but could not crack Lane.
"[Lane] made a couple of great stops on us today," Chargers' Head Coach Josh Beers said. "We pressed after the goal and just could not capitalize on any of our chances."
The game was scoreless at half after
Kyle Zook was stopped by Lane on a penalty kick in the 30th minute.
Cory Greiser was taken down in the box and Zook took the kick, but Lane, as proved to be the theme of the day, would not let the ball past him.
LBC thought they had finally beaten Lane in the 80th minute, but the goal was called back on a questionable offsides call.
Sean Westerlund kicked home a rebound, but the line judges flag was up.
The Chargers will have little time to think about the loss as they host Penn State Berks on Wednesday at Charger Field.
"We have to bounce back on Wednesday," Beers said. "We have a tough game and need to play well here down the stretch."
Wednesday's game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Prior to the game, the five LBC seniors will be honored.
