Chargers Play Well in Loss to Marymount

With the playoffs right around the corner, the Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team headed to Arlington, Virginia on Saturday night, hoping to gain momentum for the upcoming week. Though they lost, 3-0, the Chargers achieved their purpose and have momentum heading into the most important week of the season.

The Saints jumped out to an early lead, scoring 14 minutes into the game. The Chargers' defense settled down and the score remained, 1-0 at the half. Marymount scored in the 69th minute to double their lead and put the game away ten minutes later when they made it, 3-0.

"We are not going to see another team like them the rest of the season," LBC Head Coach Josh Beers said. "They are very good and tonight was a good measuring stick for us."

Beers said despite the loss, the team can use the game as momentum for the next week when they will wrap up their regular season and begin the NCCAA East Region playoffs.

"I thought the guys responded well to the challenge tonight and our defense was solid," Beers said. "Jarrod Bergey made some big saves for us tonight and we had some offensive chances as well."

LBC (10-9) will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday when they host Williamson Trade at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, they will host Baptist Bible College at 3:00 p.m. in the NCCAA East Region Semi-Finals. With momentum and a 6-1 record at home this season, Beers said the team is exicted for the opportunity to repeat at NCCAA East Region Champions.

"We are excited for the week and I am interested to see how the guys will respond," Beers said. "Tonight's game will serve us well because the pace and skill level will prepare us for what we are going to face going forward the rest of the way."
