With the NCCAA East Region Playoffs just two days away, the Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team looked to use Tuesday's regular season finale with Williamson Trade as a building block for Thursday's much tougher game against Baptist Bible.
While the first half, which began with all of the LBC starters on the bench, could have gone a little better, the inserted starters broke loose in the second half and scored five goals in 27 minutes to help the Chargers wrap-up the regular season with a 5-0 win.
Cory Greiser scored twice, while
Kyle Zook assisted on three of the five goals to lead LBC to their third straight regular season with double digit wins. The 11 wins are two fewer then the team had last season, but for the first time in school history, LBC has won double digit games in the regular season, three straight years.
The Keltner brothers, Kevin and Keith, scored goals for LBC (11-9) and
Eric Flick scored the first goal of his career to cap the scoring.
"It is great to see Flick finally get a goal," LBC Head Coach Josh Beers said. "It was nice to put some goals in the back of the net and hopefully that offense will continue to thrive on Thursday."
The Chargers out shot the Mechanics (0-11) by a margin of 37-4.
Jarrod Bergey earned his fifth shutout of the season, making two saves.
Thursday's NCCAA East Region Semi-Final with the Defenders will the second meeting this season between the two teams. The Chargers beat BBC on a last second goal by Greiser on Homecoming, earning a 2-1 victory.
Thursday's game will begin at 3:00 p.m. Because it is an NCCAA Playoff game, admission will be charged. Adults are $5.00, while it is $3.00 for students. LBC students will be admitted free.
