Chargers Sweep Tri-Match, Ready for East Region Final

Tuesday's tri-match sweep of Harford Community College and Northern Virginia Community College were simply this week's appetizer to Thursday night's main course. The NCCAA East Region Final against either Valley Forge Christian or Philadelphia Biblical looms large for the Chargers on Thursday night.

LBC (15-20) took care of business on Tuesday night, sweeping both the Fighting Owls and NOVA, 3-0. In the opener, the Chargers beat Harford C.C., 25-13, 25-18, 25-11. Lauren Heliger led the Chargers with 11 kills and 16 digs. Peggy Compton had 10 kills and .769 hitting percentage. Hailee Growden added 18 assists to go along with her eight kills.

In the nightcap, the Chargers crushed NOVA, 25-6, 25-14, 25-12. Compton and Heliger led LBC once again with 11 kills each. Brittney Becker led the team in digs with 12, while Growden had seven of the team's 16 aces.

"We worked well as a team tonight and heading into the region final, that is very important," Chargers' Head Coach Lauren Bewley said.

Looking ahead to Thursday, Bewley said the team is excited to play in front of the home crowd, but expects the opponent to be tough.

"It's an honor to host regionals and we are excited for a competitive match," Bewley said. "We will need to play our best to win and we want to earn our way to NCCAA Nationals."

Valley Forge Christian will take on PBU at 5:30 p.m. with the winner meeting LBC at 7:00 p.m. As part of hosting the NCCAA East Region Final, LBC will be having a canned food drive prior to the match. Those attending the match are asked to bring two canned food items with them. Students who bring two cans will be admitted into the match for free, while adults who bring two cans will be charged $3.00, instead of the normal $5.00.
