Despite riding a five-game winning streak into their game with Lycoming on Tuesday, the Lancaster Bible College men's soccer coaching staff went into the game hoping to find out just how far this year's team has come since its early struggles.
Turns out there is still work to be done.
The host Warriors scored 13 minutes into the game and added two late goals to defeat the Chargers, 3-0 in a rainy Williamsport, Pa.
"It's always great to play teams that are better then you," LBC Head Coach Josh Beers said. "It gives us a chance to see how we stack up and today we learned that we have more work to do."
Beers said Lycoming took control early and never let go.
"They dominated us from the beginning and we simply are not ready for this level yet," Beers said. "Lycoming is a strong team and a good measuring stick for us."
Though he took the loss, Beers said he was happy with goalkeeper
Jarrod Bergey's play.
"Jarrod did a nice job in goal today," Beers said. "He made a save on a breakaway and kept the game close."
Lycoming out shot the Chargers, 25-4.
"We gave them too much space and they took advantage of it," Beers said. "The guys are eager to get back to practice and we will work on the things we need to work on."
The Chargers will have just one practice to correct things before they take on Gallaudet on Thursday night in Washington, D.C. After one day off, LBC will face arch-rival Philadelphia Biblical on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
Notes:
-This was the first time this season that LBC has been shutout.
-Lycoming beat the Chargers, 1-0 last season in Lancaster, Pa.
