With a 4-0 loss on Tuesday snapping their five-game winning streak and a huge game with their arch-rival on Saturday, the Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team faced a trap game on Thursday night at Gallaudet. Traveling three hours, playing at night, possibly looking ahead to Saturday, all the ingredients were there for a loss.
30 seconds into the match, the ingredients were in the trash. LBC junior
Cory Greiser scored off a rebound half-a-minute into the game and the Chargers were off and running.
Greiser scored again in the 37th minute off a great pass from
Lawrence Lartey and Lartey himself scored seven minutes later to give LBC a 3-0 lead just before halftime.
Kyle Zook scored on a penalty kick eight minutes into the second half to give LBC a commanding 4-0 lead.
"We outplayed them the entire game," LBC Head Coach Josh Beers said. "Lawrence played a great game in the midfield and Cory was good up top for us."
The Chargers (8-6) out shot the Bison, 29-6 and held a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.
"I was proud of the guys that they rebounded from Monday's loss so well and at the same time, did not look ahead to Saturday," Beers said. "A lot of guys got a chance to play tonight and everyone gave a great effort."
The Chargers will face Philadelphia Biblical University on Saturday for the first time since beating them in the NCCAA Division II East Region Final last season, 1-0. Saturday's game will once again decide which team has home-field advantage throughout the NCCAA East Region playoffs. For the past two years, the winner of the regular season tilt has lost in the Finals.
Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. on Saturday in Langhorne, Pa.
