The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team defeated Philadelphia Biblical University, 63-41 on Saturday, earning their first win against the Crimson Eagles since the 2004-05 season.
Lauren Heliger led the Chargers with 16 points, while
Emily Lloyd had her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Vanessa Clemenson just missed her second straight double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.
"We played well today and played well for 40 minutes, I think that is the big thing," Chargers' Head Coach Doug Helsel said. "PBU was scrappy and played physical, but our pressure caused some turnovers that got us some easy baskets."
Every person on the team had either a point or rebound, something Helsel said is very important going forward.
Box Score
"To be able to have a variety of scorers and depth is going to be key for us the rest of the way," Helsel said.
LBC led by 13 at halftime and stretched the lead to 20 six minutes into the second half. The Chargers, led by Heliger's nine second half points would lead by as many as 26 before winning by 22.
Winning for the first time in five seasons over the Crimson Eagles (1-8), LBC's seniors,
Nicole Karschner,
Lacy McClaine and Clemenson finally got the PBU monkey off their back, winning for the first time against their arch-rival.
"It's nice for the girls, especially the seniors," Helsel said of the win. "It helps lighten the burden of the entire program and now we can move on and play well in our final two games before Christmas."
The Chargers face Rosemont on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
