Penn State-Berks Sweeps LBC

Continuing to play on the road due to poor field conditions at home, the Lancaster Bible College baseball team is still searching for their first win. They fell victim to Penn State-Berks on Tuesday, dropping the opener 10-2 and losing 15-3 in game two.

In game one, the Chargers took an early 1-0 lead on a Lou Curcio single that drove in Stephen Jacques. LBC kept the lead until the bottom of the second when the Nittany Lions scored twice. They would get two more in the third and five more in the fourth to take a 9-2 lead heading to the top of the fifth.

"The pitching is still struggling," Chargers' Head Coach Doug Yager said. "We have been better offensively and our defense is improving, just need the pitching to come around."

Jacques scored both of the LBC (0-4) runs in game one, while freshman Frank DiFilippo went 2-for-2. Josh Chamberlin also had two hits for the Chargers.

Game two featured much of the same as PSU-Berks scored early and often, taking a 12-1 lead into the fourth. DiFilippo again had two hits for LBC and scored twice as well. Jacques scored the other run and had two hits of his own.

"We are more talented then we were last season, but we are still young," Yager said.

LBC will have to wait until after spring break to get that first win. Their games against Neumann and Penn State-York for this weekend have been canceled due rain. LBC is scheduled to play Cazenovia on Tuesday, March 23 at 1:00 p.m.
