The Lancaster Bible College baseball team opened the home portion of their 2010 schedule with a loss on Tuesday night, falling 17-8 to Cazenovia. The game was played at Stumpf Field due to poor field conditions at the campus field.
The Wildcats (2-5) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after capitalizing on two LBC fielding errors. Dan Wood had the first of his three hits on the night, driving home the game's first run on a single to right. The score remained the same until the bottom of the third when LBC's
Lou Curcio singled with the bases loaded, driving in
Steve Jacques. Unfortunately, the Chargers could not capitalize further and left the bases loaded.
The Wildcats scored four more times in the top half of the fourth to take a 9-1 lead. Curcio, LBC's starter, was chased after giving up four hits and four more runs. He was relieved by
Justin Long who loaded the bases, but got out of the jam by striking out Bryan Wilgocki and getting Steve True to pop out to first.
The Chargers (0-5) got three of those runs back in the bottom half of the fourth when
Caleb Erb tripled, scoring three runs. Erb finished the game 4-for-5, with three RBI's. The Chargers would get no closer as the Wildcats scored seven runs over the next two innings, highlighted by Wood's towering home run to left field.
Cazenovia's Josh Tucker got the win, while Curcio took the loss. Curcio finished 2-for-5 with two RBI's. Catcher
Drew Tilley also had two hits for LBC.
The Chargers are back in action on Friday when they host Immaculata for a doubleheader. The game will once again be played at Stumpf Field in Lancaster. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
