The hopes and dreams of a national title, the big victories that propelled them to Springfield, Missouri, the hard work that got them to within a point of the East Region Title, all came crashing down in 40 minutes for the Lancaster Bible College men's basketball team on Tuesday against Ohio Christian.
The Trailblazers dominated LBC in every aspect of the game and cruised to a 78-47 victory in the opening round of the NCCAA National Championships.
"Ohio Christian played us tough," Chargers' Head Coach
Pete Beers said. "We got hit by a punch and we did not get up, we did not answer the bell."
Kevin Keltner led the Chargers with 11 points. Senior
Carl Edwards had seven points and four rebounds in just under 10 minutes of play.
Keith Keltner had eight points on 4-of-11 shooting.
"They out-played us, out-coached us, out-hearted us and out-hustled us," Beers said. "They [OCU} wanted it and they got it."
After keeping the score close in the early part of the first half, the Chargers fell behind 42-23 at halftime. The second half was much of the same and LBC could never recover.
"There are no excuses for this team," Beers said. "We have got to get better to compete at this level."
Beers said OCU's Stefan Vasiloff and Bryan Keaton were the difference makers for the Trailblazers.
"Vasiloff is a very nice player," Beers said. "And Keaton did a great job as well."
With the loss, LBC (13-14) will take on Baptist Bible College (Missouri) on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. BBC lost to Dallas Christian, 100-98 in overtime in the tournament's opening game.
"We will try and take care of business on Wednesday and start off-season training the day after that," Beers said.
