The Lancaster Bible College women's tennis team just keeps making history.
After securing their first official victory in school history last Tuesday against Philadelphia Biblical University, the Chargers can now claim their first winning streak after defeating St. Mary's College (Md.), 5-4 on Friday in St. Mary's City, Md.
The Chargers, fueled by
Nicole Karschner and Bri Funk, won four of the six singles matches to earn the victory. Karschner won her flight one singles match, 6-4, 7-5, becoming the first LBC player to win a flight one singles match. Funk secured the win for LBC (2-1) with her come from behind victory in three sets. Funk won 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6).
"Karschner and Funk played very well today, not only as a doubles team, but as individuals as well," LBC Head Coach
Zach Freeman said. "They are making their opponents make mistakes and are full of confidence in their own shots."
Senior
Carolyn Kensinger and junior
Michelle Ringler won their singles matches for the second straight match as well. Kensinger won a tough match, 6-4, 6-4, while Ringler won her back-and-forth match, 6-0, 1-6, 6-2.
"Carolyn has been playing with confidence from the start of preseason," Freeman said. "She had talent last year, but this year has put it together with everything else."
The Chargers will look to continue their winning streak on Monday when they face Bryn Mawr College at 3:30 p.m. in Bryn Mawr, Pa.
