Defenders Beat Chargers, 2-0

Opening a stretch in which they will play three games in five days, the Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team lost a back-and-forth match at Baptist Bible College, 2-0.

After waiting out a 45-minute rain delay, the teams went into halftime tied 0-0. LBC out shot BBC 9-7 in the first half, but could not convert on any of their opportunities. BBC's Erin Law opened the scoring in the 60th minute with a goal off of a free kick from 20 yards out.

The Chargers thought they had scored five minutes prior to Law's goal, but had the goal taken away on a questionable handball call. The Defenders' Heidi Howell sealed the win with a goal in the 86th minute on a breakaway.

"I thought we responded well after the goal was taken away and from my perspective we outplayed them," LBC Head Coach Ken Craul said. "It was a very even match over the course of the 90 minutes."

BBC wound up with a 15-13 edge in shots and 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.

While the loss stings, especially to an NCCAA East Region rival, Craul said their were many positives.

"It was good to see the disappointment in our team after the match because the ladies want more," Craul said. "We need to remember what this loss felt like and use it as a stepping stone. I believe that we are now starting to define who we are and that the bar has been raised."

LBC faces Mount Aloysius on Wednesday in Cresson, Pa. at 4:00 p.m.

Notes:
-Emily Lloyd made four saves for LBC.

-Karyn Harkness led the way with three shots on goal for the Chargers.

-BBC defeated the Chargers, 5-0 last season in Lancaster.
