Chargers Squeak Past Penn State Abington, 5-4

The Lancaster Bible College women's tennis team won another close match on Tuesday, defeating Penn State Abington, 5-4. At least it wasn't dark this time.

After finishing two of their three wins as the moon was coming up prior to Tuesday, the Chargers decided to comeback on the Nittany Lions all while the sun was still out. LBC won four of the six singles matches, to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 5-4 win.

Nicole Karschner and Bri Funk won their flight one doubles match, 8-5, before both went out and cruised to easy singles victories. Karschner won at flight one singles, 6-4, 6-2, while Funk cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win.

"Karschner and Funk played extremely well today," LBC Head Coach Zach Freeman said. "We needed singles wins and they went out and dominated their matches. We could not have asked much more of them."

Michelle Ringler and Kelsey Scott also won their singles matches. Ringler won, 6-2, 6-2, while Scott won 8-3 in an eight-game pro-set. Scott, who celebrated her 22nd birthday on Tuesday, turned a 3-3 tie into an 8-3 win.

"Michelle and Kelsey had a tough loss in flight three doubles and to see them comeback and play so well in singles is great," Freeman said. "They are our captains and they showed why today."

The Chargers return to the court on Friday when they face Albright in Reading, Pa. at 2:30 p.m.
