LBC Tennis Defeats PBU, 6-3

With the sun almost completely set and the stars appearing in the sky, the Lancaster Bible College women's tennis team defeated Philadelphia Biblical University, 6-3 for their first victory of the season.

Carolyn Kensinger and Michelle Ringler wrapped up their matches minutes apart from one another to ensure the Chargers' victory. Kensinger won 6-1, 6-1, while Ringler won, 4-6, 6-1, 8-6.

"Trying to watch two matches at the same time is difficult when the sun is out, but when it is dark and the two matches decide the fate of the team, it is almost impossible," LBC Head Coach Zach Freeman said.

Kensinger and Ringler, number two doubles partners, won their match 8-5 as well. The number one doubles team of Nicole Karschner and Bri Funk won their match 8-4 to give the Chargers a 2-1 lead heading into singles.

Kelsey Scott and Rachel Schmuck won their singles matches to extend the Chargers' lead to 4-1. Scott won 8-6, 6-3, while Schmuck won 6-4, 6-3. Schmuck's win was the first of her collegiate career.

After the Crimson Eagles cut the lead to 4-3 with singles wins at number one and number three, the Chargers needed a win from Ringler or Kensinger to earn the victory. With almost no light on the courts, both ladies came through and the Chargers were back at .500.

"Everyone from top to bottom played well today," Freeman said. "I am so excited for the ladies. Their hard work paid off today and they deserved the win."

The Chargers will look to keep their winning ways going when they face St. Mary's (Md.) on Friday at 3:00 p.m.

Notes:
-The win is just the third in the team's three year history.

-The six matches won is also a team record, breaking the previous high of five.

-Both of LBC's matches this season have ended with little light left on the court. Their first match lasted 3:15, while Tuesday's match lasted 3:45.
