Greiser's Late Goal Gives Chargers, 1-0 Win Over Mounties

With just over three minutes remaining in Thursday's tilt between Lancaster Bible College and Mount Aloysius, one of the only things truly visible were the neon green shirts the student workers wear. The lack of light didn't stop LBC senior Cory Greiser from once again providing a highlight moment.

With three minutes left, Greiser dribbled the ball through two defenders and blasted a shot past Mounties' goalkeeper Adam Al-Habashi that hit the right post and found the back of the net. It was the Chargers' 28th and final shot on goal, and after controlling play for almost every minute of the game, they finally had a 1-0 lead.

"Cory played a great game," LBC Head Coach Tom Ardt said. "He was in every play and worked hard on defense as well. He had some great chances throughout the game and buried the last one."

LBC goalkeeper Jarrod Bergey made four saves for his third shutout of the season. Late in the first half, Bergey got caught in traffic off a Mount Aloysius free kick and had his nose broken by a player in the box. He sat out the final 1:28 in the first half, but came out for the second half and played the rest of the way.

"He's tough," Ardt said. "It was great to see him come back and play the second half."

The Chargers [5-8-1 overall, 3-2-1 NEAC] out shot the Mounties, 28-6 and held a 12-0 edge in corner kicks.

"We defended well and stuck to our game plan," Ardt said. "I wasn't worried about how many [goals] we got, just that we didn't let them get any."

The rest of LBC's games are NEAC games, starting Saturday in Utica, New York when the Chargers face SUNYIT at 12:00 p.m. The Wildcats are currently atop the NEAC standings at 7-0, while LBC is fourth.

Notes:
-Greiser's goal, his fifth of the season, moves him into a tie for fourth place all-time in goals at LBC with 43. Jon Yunkin [1992-93, '95] also had 43 goals in a Chargers' uniform. Up next on the list, in third place, is Joel Ansel [1991-94] with 44.
