Two Goals in 41 Seconds Help Chargers Down SUNY Cobleskill, 2-0

Not a bad way to celebrate senior day.

Seniors Cory Greiser and Taylor Dooley scored 41 seconds apart late in the second half to propel the Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team past SUNY Cobleskill, 2-0 in a game the Chargers had to win.

With the win, LBC stays in a tie for the fifth and final NEAC playoff spot with Penn St. Abington and Morrisville State. LBC holds the tie-breaker of Penn St. Abington because of their 1-0 win over the Nittany Lions in September. Should the Chargers tie Morrisville St., LBC also holds the tie breaker because they have a better record against the top seed, SUNYIT. LBC tied the Wildcats, 2-2, while Morrisville St. lost to SUNYIT, 2-0.

On Saturday, the Chargers and Tigers battled back and forth for much of the first half with SUNY Cobleskill holding a 7-6 edge in shots.

"We started a bit slow and they played well," LBC Head Coach Tom Ardt said. "They surprised us a little bit, but we responded well and we were much sharper in the second half."

LBC began to control play early in the second half, but it wasn't until Greiser collected the ball at the top of the box and scored into the lower right hand corner with 13:15 to play that they were rewarded for their hard work.

Before the crowd could sit down after celebrating Greiser's goal, Dooley took a pass from Greiser and scored into the right hand corner, making it 2-0. Two goals by two seniors in just 41 seconds.

Jarrod Bergy made four saves for his fourth shutout of the season.

"All of our seniors played well today and it was great to see two seniors score," Ardt said. "I thought Grant Lockard gave us some good minutes as well."

In what was most likely their final home game, LBC wound up with a 17-9 edge in shots and gave the seniors a great send off.

"These seniors have made the program respectable and we owe them a lot," Ardt said of Jordan Westphal, Travis Weyandt, Jesse Fraser, Lawrence Lartey, Lockard, Greiser and Dooley. "It was a good result in their final home game."

The Chargers face Gallaudet on Tuesday in their regular season finale. They will battle Baptist Bible on Thursday in the NCCAA East Region Semi-Finals. LBC's results on Tuesday and Thursday will determine the rest of their schedule for the season.

Notes:
-Greiser's three points on Saturday give him 104 for his career, placing him 5th all-time in LBC history. He needs three more points to pass Kyle Zook (2007-10) for 4th all-time. Greiser's goal was his 44th, which moves him into a tie for 3rd all-time with Joel Ansel (1991-94).
