Chargers Crush Patriots, Set Up Showdown With Defenders for East Region Title

The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team advanced to the NCCAA East Region Finals for the second straight season on Wednesday, beating Valley Forge Christian, 7-0. Freshman Monica Horning scored three goals in the first 17:23 as LBC opened the floodgates in the first half, scoring six times.

Horning's second and third goals came 29 seconds apart as she scored off two good passes, the first by Jenna Godwin, the second by Karyn Harkness. Whitney Heise, Evelyn Stauffer and Kristina Clairmont also scored for LBC in the first half.

Clairmont's penalty kick conversion at 34:01 gave her 101 points for her career as she became the first player in Chargers' women's soccer history to top the 100-point mark. She has 40 goals and 21 assists during her time in a Chargers' uniform.

"It was nice to win the game and to see Clairmont get to 100 points," LBC Head Coach Ken Craul said. "Today is over and now we start focusing on Saturday. Today was just one step in the process."

Kaityln McNally scored her first collegiate goal late in the second half to make it 7-0. McNally received a pass from her sister, Shannon McNally, and shot the ball off the right post for her first goal. The assist was Shannon's first collegiate point as well.

LBC [17-1 overall, 11-0 NEAC] outshot the Patriots, 24-6 and held a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Chargers will face arch-rival Baptist Bible on Saturday in the East Region Finals. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. LBC beat the Defenders, 2-0 earlier this season in Lancaster.
