Making their longest road trip of the season, the Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team knew it had to come out sharp, despite the long bus ride, if it wanted to beat St. Joseph's [Brooklyn] and earn a key victory at the end of the regular season.
They did just that.
Shooting 48 percent from the floor and holding the host Bears to just 16 percent, the Chargers staked their claim to a 12-point halftime lead and never looked back. Senior
Nicole Karschner had 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Chargers to their sixth road win of the season, their most since 2005-06.
Emily Lloyd had a double-double of her own with 12 points and 10 boards, while
Lacy McClaine added 18 points and six boards.
"We had balanced scoring today and when we do that, we are tough to beat," Chargers' Head Coach Doug Helsel said. "We knew we had to come out sharp and stay focused after the long trip and we did just that."
St. Joseph's cut the Chargers' lead to five with 4:07 to play, but on the heels of back-to-back jumpers by Lloyd, the Chargers increased their lead back to 10.
"They pressed us all game, but we did a pretty good job handling it," Helsel said. "We got sloppy for a little bit, but overall did well."
The Bears (9-15) shot just 25 percent for the game, making just 21 of their 83 shots. LBC (11-13) held a 56-46 edge on the boards, their most this season.
LBC lost to the Bears by 17 points last season and knew going into the game they would be in for a test that could help them down the road.
"They are a good team and I think today was a good test for Valley Forge on Wednesday," Helsel said.
The Chargers host the Patriots on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. It will be Senior Night as well as Breast Cancer Awareness night at Horst Athletic Center. LBC will wear pink sneakers and honor those who have battled breast cancer.
Notes:
-The 05-06 Chargers also won six road games.

-With a start on Wednesday, senior
Lacy McClaine will play in her 100th game at LBC.
