After losing nine straight times to Baptist Bible, the Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team sure has looked good in the last two match-ups between the two teams. For the second straight meeting, LBC dominated play and won, this time, 2-0 behind goals from
Ally Brown and
Kristina Clairmont.
LBC (5-1, 3-0) controlled play from the opening whistle which resulted in a goal 14 minutes into the contest by Brown. She took a cross from freshman
Monica Horning and buried the ball into the bottom right hand corner for her fifth goal of the year.
"We have lots of ways to attack and Brown has made some adjustments this season and instead of being of a passer, she is now in a place to score more goals," LBC Head Coach
Ken Craul said. "She's not just an assist person anymore."
Though the score remained 1-0 through the rest of the first half, LBC continued to control play, totaling 16 shots on goal and eight corners in the opening half.
"We are familiar with BBC's style of play and we worked on a few things in practice on Friday," Craul said. "We also got a great effort from the entire squad today."
The Defenders (4-1, 1-0) began the second half with a bit more urgency, but eventually the Chargers regained control of much of the play that resulted in Clairmont's goal at the 75:28 mark that gave LBC some breathing room. Off a corner kick from Brown, Clairmont collected the ball after it went through the box and booted it into the top left hand corner for her third goal of the year.
With the win, LBC Is now 3-12 all-time against the Defenders, a record that should keep improving if the Chargers continue to do what they did on Monday.
"We challenged and won a lot of 50-50 balls today and BBC had very little time to put together an attack," Craul said. "The defense played well as a whole and didn't let any dangerous through balls into the box."
LBC finished with a 28-8 advantage in shots and a 19-1 edge in corner kicks.
"Today was a game to see where we are as a team," Craul said. "We will enjoy the win tonight and start to prepare for Penn St. Abington on Tuesday."
The Chargers will host the Nittany Lions and put their perfect 3-0 NEAC record on the line on Thursday at 5:00 p.m.
