The Goucher College men's soccer team had two shots on goal in the first 20 minutes of the game on Tuesday against Lancaster Bible College. Unfortunately for the Chargers, both shots found the back of the net and the two-goal deficit 18 minutes into the game was too much to overcome. LBC lost, 2-1, ending their nine-game home winning streak that dated back to last September.
After Adam Boyce and Nate Margolis put the Gophers ahead, 2-0, the Chargers responded at 25:24 with a goal by
Sean Westerlund. After
Zach Kutz crossed the ball into the box,
Taylor Dooley took a shot that was blocked, but Westerlund jumped into the air and headed the ball into the net for his first goal of the season.
The Chargers (1-3-1, 1-1-1) did everything they could in the second half to tie the score, but Gophers' goalkeeper Steve Baum kept on making saves and though they tried everything, nothing seemed to work for LBC.
"We just dug too deep of a hole for ourselves," LBC Head Coach
Tom Ardt said. "We gave them too much space twice and they had two great shots that turned into goals."
LBC out shot Goucher, 14-11 and held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
"We will learn from today and move on to Thursday," Ardt said. "We need to be smart with our preparation on Wednesday, play well Thursday and be smart again Friday as we get ready for Saturday's Homecoming game against PBU."
Thursday, the Chargers will host NEAC foe Penn St. Abington at 3:00 p.m.
Notes:
-LBC's last loss at home came on Sept. 1, 2010 against Albright. The Lions won the season opener, 4-1.
-Dooley's three-game goal scoring streak was also snapped.

Cory Greiser's scoring chance with under 30 seconds to play looked eerily similar to how his game-winning goal chance started. The LBC crowd recognized this as well and rose to their feet. They let out a collective sigh when the shot went high.
