Chargers Cruise Past Nittany Lions, 60-40

Knowing they didn't play their best basketball this past weekend, the Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team wanted to right the ship and play well on Tuesday night against basement-dwelling Penn St. Abington. And while the ship isn't calm yet, it isn't rocking as violently as it was over the weekend.

The Chargers controlled play and forced 24 turnovers en route to a 60-40 win over Penn St. Abington at Horst Athletic Center. Lauren Heliger had a game-high 17 points and added eight rebounds and seven assists as LBC won for the second straight time and improved to 7-8 overall and 7-4 in NEAC play.

"We played a little better today than we did on Saturday," LBC Head Coach Doug Helsel said. "That being said, we still need to get better and will need to play better to win on Thursday and Saturday."

Emily Lloyd dominated play down low, scoring 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting for LBC, while Brooklyn Wilson had 11 points and three steals.

Also in the mix on Tuesday night was the LBC bench. Carmin Nachtigal led the way with six points and three steals in 11 minutes, while Emily Timberlake added four rebounds and a steal in eight minutes of action.

"It was nice to see the bench not only get minutes, but produce as well," Helsel said.

Jacyln Vandiver had 13 points and eight rebounds for Penn St. Abington which fell to 0-15 overall and 0-9 in NEAC play.

For the third time this season the Chargers will try and win three games in a row, something that hasn't happened since the 2006-07 season.

"We made it a team goal for this season," Helsel said. "We need to win three games in a row."

LBC will get the chance on Thursday when they host NCCAA East Region rival Philadelphia Biblical at 6 p.m.
