Nittany Lions Blank Chargers, 4-0

Box Score For the final five games of the 2012 season, the Lancaster Bible men's soccer team will have its back against the wall as they must now win five straight games in order to advance to postseason play, specifically the NCCAA East Region Playoffs. Needing six wins to advance to postseason play, the Chargers are on the brink after losing to Penn St. Harrisburg, 4-0 on Homecoming Saturday at LBC.

The game could have been very different however as the Chargers failed to convert several offensive chances in the first half, including a penalty kick. Instead of possibly being up 2-1 or tied 2-2, the Chargers trailed the Nittany Lions, 3-0 at the half.

"Today was a rough result," Chargers' Head Coach Tommy Ardt said. "It could have been a very different game if we would have converted our chances. We had chances, but didn't take advantage of them and we need to learn how to do that."

After Tommy Miller scored twice for the Nittany Lions, including one a penalty kick, the Chargers were awarded a penalty kick of their own. Dwight Shelly's shot was read right away by Penn St. Harrisburg goalkeeper Deven Gebhart and he made the save, preserving the two-goal lead. Hakan Demircan's goal with just over two minutes to play in the opening half, gave the Nittany Lions a commanding three-goal lead and allowed them to play a defensive style in the second half.

"They are a good team and they caused us a lot of problem in the second half," Ardt said.

The Chargers have not scored in four of their past five games and have just one goal since defeating Baptist Bible on Sept. 25. LBC will look to break its scoreless streak on Tuesday when they travel to Phoenixville, Pa. to face Valley Forge Christian at 3:30 p.m.

Because LBC needs six wins to advance to the NCCAA East Region Playoffs and Cairn University is not participating in the NCCAA Playoffs this season, Valley Forge Christian and Baptist Bible may automatically be in the East Region Final.
