Box Score Searching for any spark to ignite its dormant offense, the Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team got it just 18 seconds into its game with Valley Forge Christian on Tuesday. Senior
Sean Westerlund scored the fastest goal in LBC soccer history and helped the Chargers snap a five-game losing streak with a 8-1 victory in Phoenixville, Pa.
Chargers' freshman
Alex Vocature scored his first two collegiate goals to pace LBC, while
Miles Herron, Brad Wilcox,
Ethan Toomey and Westerlund scored once. The Patriots had two own goals as well to aid the Chargers. Toomey's goal was also the first of his collegiate career.
"We played well today," Chargers' Head Coach Tommy Ardt said. "We had a little lapse at the 10 minute mark when they scored, but we rebounded and I thought we played well as a team."
The eight goals scored are the most since LBC scored eight last October 5 when they defeated Valley Forge Christian by the same score of 8-1.
The Chargers are now 2-9-2 overall and still must win their last four games in order to be postseason eligible. Should they win their last four games, LBC would host the East Region Final on Saturday, October 27 because they would be the top seed. LBC defeated Baptist Bible on Sept. 25 and would play the winner of Baptist Bible/Valley Forge Christian. Should LBC lose once more this season, Baptist Bible would face Valley Forge Christian in the East Region Final. Cairn University is not participating in the men's and women's soccer East Region Playoffs this year.
LBC will look to keep the momentum going on Saturday when they host SUNYIT at 2 p.m. Prior to the game, the Chargers will honor their four seniors,
Dwight Shelly, Tim Landis, Jr.,
Sean Westerlund and
Richard Westerlund.
