Box Score Rosemont's Mitch Carsillo led four players in double figures with 14 points as the Ravens turned a 10-point halftime lead into a 27-point victory, defeating Lancaster Bible, 79-52 at Horst Athletic Center.
After trailing, 38-28, at halftime, LBC sophomore
Jon Bird scored the first five points of the second half to cut the Chargers' deficit to five, 38-33. Unfortunately for the Chargers, that would be close as they would get to the Ravens as Rosemont went on a 12-2 run over the next six minutes to pull away from LBC.
"They [Rosemont] turned up the tempo and became more aggressive and we simply didn't match it," Chargers' Head Coach
Marshall Tague said. "We had some mental breakdowns as well and they took advantage."
Not helping LBC was the fact they shot just 27 percent [7-of-26] from the field in the second half. After Bird's back-to-back layups to begin the second half, LBC scored just five more baskets and 19 points the rest of the half.
"When we were able to get the ball to Bird inside, I thought played well," Tague said.
The Chargers (0-4) also hurt themselves by sending the Ravens (4-0) to the free throw line 34 times, including 22 times in the second half.
"Tonight was basically the fourth straight game we fouled almost uncontrollably," Tague said. "We can't give an opponent 34 free throws and expect to win."
Tague mentioned LBC senior
Keith Keltner's play against Rosemont's leading scorer as a highlight for the Chargers. Derrick Carter, who came into the game averaging 21.7 points per game and managed just 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting against Keltner and the Chargers. Not only did he play solid defense, but Keltner also led LBC in scoring with 15 points.
"I thought Keith played Carter great," Tague said. "Holding him to just 11 points was great."
Chargers' senior
Dan Karl was the only other LBC player in double figures with 10 points. Bird finished with nine points, while freshman
Luke Roundy had five points and five rebounds.
LBC, starting out 0-4 for the second straight season, will face arch-rival Baptist Bible on Saturday and Tague knows the team must play better in order to win its fifth straight game over the Defenders.
"We need to be consistent mentally and be there the whole game," Tague said. "I think if we can get the ball inside and be in a better position defensively, we will have a good chance to win."
Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
Notes:
-LBC is now 10-31 in its 41 all-time home openers and has lost six straight.
