Crusaders Cruise Past Chargers

Box Score The Lancaster Bible men's basketball team is still searching for its first victory after Monday night's loss to Alvernia, 74-49. The Crusaders scored 47 points in the first half, en route to a 27-point halftime lead. Alvernia's speed and athleticism proved to be too much as Josh Vargas led four players in double figures with 15.

"I thought we came out flat in the first half and we couldn't keep up with their speed," Chargers' Head Coach Marshall Tague said. "Foul trouble hurt us again. They took 27 free throws, we took seven."

The foul trouble Tague spoke of included 14 first half fouls for the Chargers. LBC (0-6) had just six in the second half, but the damage was done. Tague said the one of the bright spots was that the team did not quit and played much better in the second half.

"The guys didn't quit and challenged one another," Tague said. "They keep fighting and that will help us down the road."

Chargers' senior Keith Keltner led all scorers with 18 points and added five rebounds. Fellow senior Dan Karl added five points, while five players chipped in with four points each.

LBC returns to action on Thursday when they open North Eastern Athletic Conference [NEAC] play at Penn St. Harrisburg in Middletown, Pa. Tague said the team is looking forward to a fresh start as NEAC play opens.

"I think the guys are excited and ready to sort of start anew," Tague said. "We are 0-0 in NEAC play and it's a chance to prove to ourselves that we can play well."

Thursday's tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
